French, Colonies raises $34 million for Co-living, community-minded homes

French Startup Colonies, raises $34 million for Co-living community-minded homes, with a commitment from LBO France to spend $168 million (€150 million) in real estate projects over the next couple of years. Participants in the round are Idinvest Partners, Global Founders Capital and La Financière Saint James.

Founded in 2017 by Alexandre Martin, Amaury Courbon and Francois Roth, Colonies creates better housing solutions by designing and managing fully-furnished, community-minded quality homes located in large cities.

Colonies targets young people, looking for a convenient lifestyle, bundled with community living and managed property services. Applicants get their own room with private bathroom, sharing a living room and kitchen. Apartments can have a capacity of 8 to 12 persons. Everything shared is managed by Colonies.

The Colonies business model is to partner with real estate investment firms so as not to own property buildings, but rather to act as a managing partner for the buildings, signing leases directly with renters. Currently Colonies is working on more projects in Paris, Lille, Bordeaux, Marseille, Toulouse and Germany.
